Big Announcement: A Super Highway from Salina Cruz to Zihuatanejo is on the Way! by Brent May April 11, 2025 by Brent May 1.6K Exciting news is rolling out of southern Mexico! A brand-new super highway is officially in the works, connecting Salina Cruz, Oaxaca to Zihuatanejo, Guerrero—a major leap forward for regional infrastructure, tourism, and economic development. This ambitious project is part of a broader national highway development plan, with a staggering MX$173 billion investment earmarked to improve over 4,000 kilometers of roads across the country. Within this framework, Oaxaca’s highway program alone will see an impressive MX$5.99 billion funneled into enhancing 904 kilometers of roadways, including the Salina Cruz–Zihuatanejo route. What This Means for Mexico’s Pacific Coast The highway will dramatically reduce travel time between the two vibrant coastal cities, opening up more efficient transportation for locals, businesses, and tourists alike. Right now, the winding and often treacherous roads through the mountains can turn a relatively short distance into an all-day drive. This new corridor is set to change that, offering: ✅ Faster travel times ✅ Greater safety ✅ Improved logistics for goods and services ✅ Boosted tourism and real estate interest ✅ Better regional connectivity For coastal communities along the southern Pacific—including Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, and other hidden gems—this highway could be a game-changer, providing easier access to the growing number of travelers exploring Mexico’s less-developed (and breathtakingly beautiful) beaches. Part of the Lázaro Cárdenas Plan The highway falls under the Lázaro Cárdenas Plan, a comprehensive development initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure, trade, and investment throughout southern Mexico. The plan is focused not only on improving roads, but also on fostering economic inclusion, social development, and sustainable growth in historically underserved areas. Why This Matters for Locals & Visitors For travelers and investors eyeing opportunities on the Pacific Coast, this new highway could mean easier access to real estate markets, faster trips between destinations, and a rise in demand for tourism services. For locals, it offers better access to healthcare, education, and jobs in neighboring regions, potentially transforming entire communities. Stay tuned for more updates as construction progresses. Whether you’re a road trip enthusiast, a business owner, or a real estate investor, this is one development you’ll want to keep on your radar.
