Beyond Mexico’s world-famous sun and beach offering, growth has come from the attractiveness of Mexico’s many segments such as mega biodiversity, nature, gastronomy, luxury, high profile events like F1, sport and adventure, cultural traditions like Day of the Dead, weddings, romance, meetings and events industries and retirees. Regarding to the United States market Lourdes Berho, general director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM), emphasized that we have an increase in connectivity of almost 6% due to the new Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two nations, which in addition to open new routes, increase the number of airlines that operate the existing ones. Between the last quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of this year, 27 new flights were identified between the United States and Mexico, the general director added. With regard to Canada, Lourdes Berho mentioned that the market showed a growth trend of 8%, during the first months of 2017, prompted by the elimination of the visa requirement, which favored the increase of the tourist exchange between both nations, particularly of tourists of that country to the main national destinations. In the other hand, during the edition no.42 of Tianguis Turistico 2017 that took place from March 27 to 30 in Acapulco Diamante, Pía Oberholzer, manager of the Association of Hotels and Motels of Huatulco (AHMH) stressed that from negotiations with all the airlines, new routes such as Chicago-Huatulco have been crystallized with Volaris, in collaboration with Apple Vacations, whose flights start in November, make it a permanent route. Another permanent route with Volaris is Guadalajara-Huatulco that start operations today.Talks were held with TAR airlines company and it is planned that in a short term a new direct flight will be obtained to Huatulco, from Puebla or Querétaro, ” she said. Connectivity and industry partnerships are critical to Mexico’s goal to appeal to a broader audience in new markets, globally.
