ViewPoint – Location by George Daniel Leis While the Viewpoint at Puerto Angel may feel as if you’re on the edge of the earth, in fact the development is perfectly situated to provide all the pleasures of the quaint seaside town of Puerto Angel and all the benefits of the booming Huatulco region (pronounced “Wa-tool-co”). Rumour has it that in the early 80’s, President Miguel de la Madrid was sailing along the Oaxacan coast with friends and, coming upon the pristine bays, virgin beaches and abundance of coral reefs of Huatulco, immediately recognized the area’s potential and ordered a multi-million dollar resort development program. Since this infamous rediscovery, the Mexican government has continued to endorse and invest in the area, to the point that today it has been singled out by Mexico’s official tourism arm, FONATUR, as the most important tourist area in the country for development. Like the President, FONATUR recognizes Huatulco’s unique mix of rugged coastline, spectacular bays, and 36 natural beaches. As a result, they have spared no expense in planning and installing wide, paved roadways, water treatment systems, public parks, marinas, ecological reserves, and an 18-hole golf course. Due to its proximity, Puerto Angel and Viewpoint benefit from all this infrastructure and capital commitment. In 2000, Huatulco was the first tourist destination in the Americas and only the third in the world to receive the Green Globe International Certification for environmental stewardship. Huatulco is home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. The Parque Nacional Huatulco created in 1988 encompasses 6,375 hectares of lowland jungle and 5,516 hectares of marine environment. There are 723 species of animals within the park boundaries including birds, reptiles, fish, and numerous others. This is eco-tourism at it’s finest…hiking, bird watching, scuba diving, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting to a name but a few activities. Viewpoint is strategically located in Puerto Angel, between Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. The property is easily accessible along Highway 200, approximately 35 minutes from the Huatulco International Airport (HUX). With increased demand to this Southern Mexican paradise, flying to Huatulco is getting easier. Share FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail
