Puerto Escondido by Erin May Nestled between the end of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains and Pacific Ocean is the coastal resort of Puerto Escondido. This laid back surf town is considered one of the most important tourist attractions on the Oaxaca coast. It is loved by travelers, expats and surfers and is a popular investment and retirement location for Canadians and Americans. Puerto Escondido is home to the Mexican Pipeline, making it a world class surfing destination. Puerto Escondido is made up of three main beaches, Playa Principal, Playa Marinero and Zicatela. The heart of the lower town is Av Pérez Gasga, known as “El Adoquín”, a street that comes alive at night with markets. The beaches of Puerto Escondido each have their own personality, offering tourists many places to snorkel, dive, sport fish, surf and take in a whale watching boat tour.
