The state of Oaxaca joined the list of Mexican destinations that obtain the Global Safety Stamp granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), and which will help to restore confidence of the travelers. So far, only 8 states in Mexico have this recognition, and Oaxaca is the first colonial and beach destination to obtain it.

In this regard, Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the WTTC, assured that “the tourist attractions of Oaxaca have international recognition for the combination of its great cultural wealth, history, architecture, natural beauties, climate, crafts, traditions such as the Guelaguetza and its gastronomy, listed as a World Heritage Site ”.

For his part, Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa stressed that the entity is ready to receive and care for its visitors, and that the WTTC stamp is a sign of the commitment of the tourism sector to offer the best standards of hygiene and sanitation. “Let it be clear that our main objective is to protect the health of both Oaxacans and those who visit us,” he said.

Guevara Manzo also highlighted that Oaxaca offers a high quality of services and, hand in hand with the tourism sector, offers all its efforts to take care of the health of visitors and the community. “The WTTC considers that it is time to join forces between government authorities and representatives of the private sector, to build a common front that allows tourism to move forward, an activity that is the engine of the economy,” he said.

In turn, the Secretary of Tourism, Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, pointed out that working with certified protocols is the best strategy for state authorities and service providers to provide certainty to visitors. “Under this new normality, the state declares itself ready to continue offering its main destinations such as the City of Oaxaca, the Bays of Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, as well as its five Magical Towns, which have also adopted safety and hygiene protocols to receive national and international travelers in their communities.

Oaxaca is a unique destination in Mexico, offering visitors the beauty of its capital city, known as the “Verde Antequera”, for its beautiful buildings in a colonial-style quarry, considered a World Heritage Site. Puerto Escondido and the Bays of Huatulco have the best beaches in the Pacific and their gastronomy is internationally recognized. In addition, the state is internationally known for the Guelaguetza and for the tradition of Mezcal, among many other attractions.

The WTTC protocols were designed following the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and are endorsed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Additionally, the Global Security Seal has the backing of more than 200 CEOs from the main business groups in the travel and tourism sector around the world.

It is important to highlight that once the authorities of each entity determine the opening of their destinations, it is the responsibility of the governments and companies that receive the Safe Travel Seal to supervise the strict compliance with hygiene and sanitation protocols for health care. of visitors.

Tourism is a strategic activity for economic development. In 2019 alone, it contributed 10.3% of world GDP, was responsible for generating one in four of the world’s new jobs and, for nine consecutive years, outpaced the growth of the world economy.
